As soccer is one of the most well loved sports on Earth, many children and adults are lured into participating in playing on a daily basis. Due to this wide spread popularity, soccer injuries are very common.
With over 80,000 adults and children going to emergency rooms every year as a result of soccer, knowing the safety rules is vital. When playing and watching, there are certain things that you should always be aware of so that you and your teammates or family members are not among those hurt through either playing or watching. There are several categories of safety rules that you should be aware of. These consist of the following:
•On Field Safety •Goal Safety •Stadium Safety •Equipment •Weather Safety •Miscellaneous Accessories

Lightning Safety Outdoors
Each year, about 400 children and adults in the U.S. are struck by lightning while working outside, at sports events, on the beach, mountain climbing, mowing the lawn or during other outdoor activities. About 80 people are killed and several hundred more are left to cope with permanent disabilities. Many of these tragedies can be avoided. Finishing the game, getting a tan, or completing a work shift aren't worth death or crippling injury.
• All thunderstorms produce lightning and are dangerous. Lightning kills more people each year than tornadoes.
• Lightning often strikes as far as 10 miles away from any rainfall. Many deaths from lightning occur ahead of the storm because people try and wait to the last minute before seeking shelter.
• You are in danger from lightning if you can hear thunder. If you can hear thunder, lightning is close enough that it could strike your location at any moment.
• Lightning injuries can lead to permanent disabilities or death. On average, 20% of strike victims die; 70% of survivors suffer serious long term effects.

INTRODUCTION
A human being can only tolerate a variation of around 5° F in internal body temperature without physical and mental performance being impaired. Soccer players, like with many other outdoor sports, are at times subjected to extreme weather conditions. The temperature of the climate the game is played in is important, affecting body temperature and the ability to perform.
TEMPERATURE REGULATION
The control of body temperature depends on the balance between overcooling and overheating. The body’s normal temperature is 98° F. When playing soccer, heat production is increased and has to be removed or performance will be affected. Temperature must stay within a range of 98° F to 104° F. Body and the outside air temperature/humidity can be measured relatively accurately through the use of thermometers.
Most of the heat is conducted in the blood stream to the skin, where it is released into the environment in four different ways:

Please click here to read about our new hazardous weather policy and the meaning of each colored flag.
BRSA will be assessing the weather and field conditions at 7:00 am and 12:00 pm on Saturday game days for Spring 2011. This will allow us the best possibility to avoid game reschedule conditions.
If the fields are closed at 7:00 all games will be canceled up to 12:00, then they will be reassessed based on the conditions at 12:00. If conditions have not improved another cancellation notice will be sent. If conditions have improved enough to play then afternoon games will be played pending incoming weather. DO NOT assume that because games are canceled in the morning that they will be canceled all day.
IF a team does not show based on weather conditions and fields have not been closed or an announcement made that game WILL be a forfeit.
If games are canceled due to weather and teams are at the fields the coaches/managers from both teams MUST go to the clubhouse to begin the reschedule process prior to leaving the fields. This is necessary to try to accommodate the schedule of all involved. |

Not sure how to get a new pair of boots for the fall season due to the economy? It's simple!! Located in our concession stand we have multiple pairs that have been donated for future generation use!! It is not mandatory that you leave a pair to get a pair, however we and future soccer players would greatly appreciate it. We have sizes ranging from Toddler 8 up to Mens 9. Things that you can donate include:
- Soccer Balls
- Shin Guards
- Shorts (No socks please)
- Jersey's
- Boots (Cleats)
- Indoor Shoes

- Money (Due to our rising number of scholarship players in the past few years, Blue River Soccer Assocation would appreciate any and all help covering these costs. There is a donation box located at the concession stand. You can also purchase a window decal for your vehicle to help support our scholarship players).
